My Mom's Baking...

Here are the rest of the photos I wanted to post. My mom and I made some beautiful homemade bread last week and it was great fun. I should say my mom made the bread, I watched! She even ground the wheat in their wheat grinder. The bread was so light and fluffy and melted in your mouth. The cinnamon rolls were amazing!
I am in beautiful Ohio now visiting my sister and her husband and my adorable nephew! Looking forward to having our mom join us later this week! :)

Books and Benjamin......

The blessedness of a good book! Since Benjamin has been away I have a lot more time to read! I had several books that I had started but never finished and I finally did! I also read a couple at my mom and dad's house. And then I reread a new favorite. I read it a long time ago. Bel Lamington is the title, the author is D.E. Stevenson. I have mentioned her before. She has to be my very favorite author. Most of her books take place prior to WWII and some during. Usually in London or all around England and Scotland. D.E. Stevenson is the girl version of Charles Dickens. She has a great talent of portraying characters and real life situations. :) I have also been reading a book about my Pastor's wife, Marja Barnett. Very encouraging book to read. She was born in Finland and then because of circumstances with the war was placed into an orphanage in Sweden. Adopted by a kind family and then in her twenties moved to the United States where she was saved and met and married her husband Pastor Tommy Barnett. Her book talks about the difficulties of marriage being a brand new Christian and married to a pastor and learning a new language. I am enjoying it and excited to tell Benjamin about it!

Benjamin is doing really well. He was promoted already! So proud of him! I new he was made for this! :) I was able to talk to him yesterday for about 45 min! He earned the phone call by running the fastest in one of their tests :P We have been corresponding mainly through the mail. It has been very difficult getting used to not talking to him and having to communicate through pen and paper! Something very satisfying though about writing for an hour and being able to express myself to him. I think he is enjoying it! Its funny even though we were with each other constantly before, how much we weren't able to communicate because of the craziness of our schedules. So this experience has been enriching and we have enjoyed it. :) I love receiving a letter from him and tying to capture and picture what he has been doing. I get to see him in a little less then two weeks! Then he will be off to Pensacola for Avionics School. I will be sure to post a picture! :)

~Olechka and I :)

~Our Cupcakes! I had a bunch more pictures to upload, but having such a hard time getting them up! I'll upload them when I get to Ohio :)

This week has been a whirl wind! I cannot believe my visit has almost come to an end. I have been able to visit many friends and catch up. My friend Holly (here is her blog address,) who my sister and I grew up with since we were babies had a little baby girl and I was able to meet her! And delighted in how much she looks like Holly. :) Holly was the sweetest hostess, she spoiled me by feeding me and serving me lovely cups of tea. Their home was so charming and cozy. I still have not been able to meet her husband since every time we see each other he is always hard away at work! :) But we promised to meet through Skype pretty soon!

Last week my mom and I went out and visited my mom's very dear friend Roxy. It was so nice for me to be apart of the fun. Roxy fed us a delicious meal and I am still thinking of it! (The second trimester has started. I have been so hungry lately.) Then I was able to help her start a blog! Here is her blog link, Living From Glory To Glory.

I have been able to spend a lot of time with my parents. We have been talking, sharing, laughing and praying together.
The house here is always abuzz! With the phone ringing off the hook, people stopping by and all the activities my siblings are busy doing. Russell has joined the Navy and will be leaving next year for Boot Camp. Olga has one more year of High School and Eddie will be starting this school year as new homeschooler! :) My older brothers and my sister and I never were involved in the Public School System. After my parents adopted Russ, Olga and Eddie, they went into public school here and we are so thankful that the schools have been so great. Their standards are much higher and most of the teachers are christians including the principal. What a difference from the big city! The middle school is not so good. And so Eddie will be home schooled this year. And maybe even through high school. :) I am enjoying talking about his curriculum with my mom! He is a bright little guy and happens to love history which is one of my favorite subjects.

I am glad I was able to come right before the school season starts. Its nice to enjoy the seasons again. Fall is in the air and I love it! :) My mom and I made some cupcakes the other day for some friends and we did some beautiful Sun Flowers using Gum Paste and little bit of frosting for the middle of the Sun Flower.

I was able to finally finish a couple of books while I have been here. My new favorite, "Mornings on Horseback" by David Mccullough. Its about Theodore Roosevelt and his family. His family were just amazing and wonderful people. I just loved every page! :)

I know this post was pretty long, I jammed a bunch of posts into one! :)

My mom has a beautiful garden growing. Here are some of the things she has growing off the top of my head. Carrots, Chili Peppers, Beets, Scallop Squash, Yellow Squash, Spaghetti Squash, Green Onions, Sunflowers, Sage, Mint, Peas, Lettuce, Bell Peppers, Zucchini, Cucumbers and Egg Plant all growing right now! I only posted a part of the garden! It took me two days to upload these pictures because of the slower internet:) I am visiting everyone's blog, it just takes a little while for me to get all your pages up! Happy August everyone :)

~Grandma's finished necklace

~Me, Rachel and Jessica, my two cousins

~Catching my uncle Dave with his often silly face

~My Grandma and I celebrating her birthday

~Some friends, cousins and my Dad above me

I have been so very blessed to be able to visit and enjoy my wonderful family. It has been a long time since we have been able to see each other. I had so much fun staying with my Grandma and being able to celebrate her birthday while I was there. She was able to make another necklace using the leftover beads from the necklace we had made previously. It looks really pretty on against the skin. We went swimming one day over at my uncles house with my cousins. The temperature had gotten up to 117! So we were very hot and in need of a nice cool pool. Her birthday was last week and my uncle took us out to dinner to a delicious Italian restaurant. My dad was able to be there as well, as he was passing through town and I was able to hitch a ride back to Colorado with him! The Colorado weather is heavenly right now! Afternoon showers and beautiful dark fluffy clouds :) Happily enjoying my parents and siblings before I head on up to Ohio to visit Marie, Jon and little Zane. I have a bunch more photos to post of all the things we have been up to the last couple of days. :) I'll be back soon with more!

~Beautiful glass pearls

~The necklace clasp that is so pretty!

~ Matching bracelet

Here are some pictures of the finished delights! I had a ball with Grandma making these. She is so helpful and her ideas are great in her patterns. She also gave me a necklace that she made awhile ago. I am going to have a lot of fun putting these necklaces together with some outfits.

Visiting My Grandmother

I have been buys enjoying some time with my grandma. She had just recently bought a house this year in Nevada. She stays in Nevada during the winter and Colorado in the summer. This year she needed to stay in Nevada and finish some things on the house. So it worked out well that I could come and visit and see the new house! She loves beading jewelry. Every time I visit she spoils me and helps me make a beautiful new necklace. Today she took me to a great bead store. We picked out some pretties and hurried home to start a new creation! She could be a geologist with how much she knows about rocks! :) I'll post the necklace that we are working on when we are finished!

Very interesting story about three former terrorists.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

I have recently looked up letters online from Abigail and John adams to each other. And have loved reading them! So very interesting and inspiring. There are a total of 339, just in the time of John serving at the Continental Congress (which was 1774-1777.) They wrote over the span of their lives over 1000 letters. After reading many I found this one that I really liked. The way he described the characters and his enthusiasm is so admirable.

You can find this letter and many more at Adams Family Papers.

Phyladelphia Septr. 16, 1774

Having a Leisure Moment, while the Congress is assembling, I gladly embrace it to write you a Line.

When the Congress first met, Mr. Cushing made a Motion, that it should be opened with Prayer. It was opposed by Mr. Jay of N. York and Mr. Rutledge of South Carolina, because we were so divided in religious Sentiments, some Episcopalians, some Quakers, some Aanabaptists, some Presbyterians and some Congregationalists, so that We could not join in the same Act of Worship.-Mr. S. Adams arose and said he was no Bigot, and could hear a Prayer from a Gentleman of Piety and Virtue, who was at the same Time a Friend to his Country. He was a Stranger in Phyladelphia, but had heard that Mr. Duche (Dushay they pronounce it) deserved that Character, and therefore he moved that Mr. Duche, an episcopal Clergyman, might be desired, to read Prayers to the Congress, tomorrow Morning. The Motion was seconded and passed in the Affirmative. Mr. Randolph our President, waited on Mr. Duche, and received for Answer that if his Health would permit, he certainly would. Accordingly next Morning he appeared with his Clerk and in his Pontificallibus, and read several Prayers, in the established Form; and then read the

Collect for the seventh day of September, which was the Thirty fifth Psalm. -You must remember this was the next Morning after we heard the horrible Rumour, of the Cannonade of Boston.-I never saw a greater Effect upon an Audience. It seemed as if Heaven had ordained that Psalm to be read on that Morning.

After this Mr. Duche, unexpected to every Body struck out into an extemporary Prayer, which filled the Bosom of every Man present. I must confess I never heard a better Prayer or one, so well pronounced. Episcopalian as he is, Dr. Cooper himself never prayed with such fervour, such Ardor, such Earnestness and Pathos, and in Language so elegant and sublime-for America, for the Congress, for The Province of Massachusetts Bay, and especially the Town of Boston. It has had an excellent Effect upon every Body here.

I must beg you to read that Psalm. If there was any Faith in the sortes Virgilianae, or sortes Homericae, or especially the Sortes biblicae, it would be thought providential.

It will amuse your Friends to read this Letter and the 35th. Psalm to them. Read it to your Father and Mr. Wibirt.-I wonder what our Braintree Churchmen would think of this?-Mr. Duche is one of the most ingenious Men, and best Characters, and greatest orators in the Episcopal order, upon this Continent-Yet a Zealous Friend of Liberty and his Country.

I long to see my dear Family. God bless, preserve and prosper it.

Adieu.
John Adams

Deuteronomy 6:4

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [a] 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Today I got inspired again, (which is easy for me :) I was at Target, browsing around and came upon the beautiful Shabby Chic bedding. The inspiration just flowed over me! A while ago I had been thinking about painting our bedroom set white. Our bedroom set is a light wood. My parents gave it to me when I was a teenager. It has a matching book shelf and vanity. So this week I have decided to have a go at it! I looked up lots of different Shabby Chic pictures to get some more inspiration and now there is no turning back! :P I'll be sure to post pictures of this new adventure.

Marie and I celebrated our birthdays yesterday. This was our second year not celebrating it together! We both find it hard I think. I love having a partner when I open my presents! Its hard having everyone's eye looking on while I am unwrapping. I had a very nice day though. Himicle and Nathan made dinner and dessert and invited our grandparents. My grandma Kathy's birthday is this month as well, so we celebrated hers a little earlier with mine. I was very happy to have her open her presents with me! Happy Birthday Marie!

Adventures

Not that you cans see anything! Week 10!

Busy happenings around here! On Saturday the 4th, my air conditioner was giving me problems and sending out a horrible smell. I know I have a really sensitive nose right now, but this was REALLY strong! So I asked my brother Nathan and his wife Himilce if I could come over and stay with them until the air conditioner got figured out. It was so nice being able to be with them! They took such nice care of me. They FED me and FED me! The only sore party was our cats. I visited them the next day and boy were they cranky! Our little home was 97. I tried to make them feel better by putting ice cubes in their water, but they didn't seem to appreciate it! I ended up staying with Nathan and Himilce five nights and I am home tonight. It has taken all day to get the temperature back at a livable state. The cats are very happy and appreciative to have me home :P

We ended up not putting our stuff into storage after all and I am remaining here for a while anyways. I am thankful that I still have our place. Now I just need to make it homey again. We packed up A LOT of boxes, so I will put them all in Benjamin's office for now.

Baby update. Doing well, no morning sickness. I don't think I had it very bad! I am 10 weeks this week so I am thinking I skipped out on it! Which is perfectly fine with me! :) One very hard thing I had to deal with, was a bad bladder infection. I know it is common with pregnancy, but it has been so hard to get over this! I came down with it the day after Benjamin left. It kept me up three nights last week. I would start to think I was over it, but it would rear its head again. I think I am now feeling like a normal person again! :) I have drank so much cranberry juice! I am afraid my teeth are going to fall out! What's better to go to the doctor pay the medication or drink tons of cranberry juice and go to the dentist with many cavities? Ha! :)
I have more to post about, but I better save it for a future post! Don't want to use it all up in one :P

Happy 4th of July! Thank you Lord for this beautiful country. Thank you for the laws that you established when it was founded. Thank you for your mercy and love that you bestowed on us. Allow this country to continue and never stop supporting Israel! I love you Lord!

Inspiration....

Here are some roses I did a couple of weeks ago to make sure
I still had the right touch! :)

I picked up some cake decorating books yesterday from the library and it helped bring back the inspiration for cake decorating. Sometimes we need little boosts to help us out! :P I had put it away for a couple of weeks and I lost some passion and excitement. The books helped a lot! I am going to take another Wilton class this summer hopefully two. I am excited to learn more about gum paste and fondant. And also take the wedding cake class. I need the confidence for future weddings! Yikes!! :)

Goodbyes

~Waiting :)

~Last Sunday at church together

Yesterday was the day to say goodbye to my Benjamin. It was such a nice day though. I got to be with him for the whole day while he had to go through the whole process, being sworn in again and signing his contract. He also had to do more tests and exams. We were there for over eight hours. I was very happy, being able to be with him longer than I first had thought! Then we finally went to the airport. They gave me a pass to go with him to his gate. I was so proud of myself! I didn't show him any tears! I knew if I started crying, it would be that much harder for him to leave. I saved them for the car. He was able to call me that night and let me know he had made it safely! So now I have about 9 weeks to wait and see him, which I am praying they will go by fast! :) I posted some pictures of Sunday at our evening service and of yesterday waiting all day! :)

Tomorrow marks nine weeks pregnant. I am feeling better thankfully! Not near as much nausea and smellies! :P I had a lot of fun today, I went over to Whole Foods and bought some good prenatales and calcium/magnesium. Then I had fun getting some healthy fresh yogurt and REALLY fresh milk! The milk is in the glass bottle and everything! :P We have a great Whole Foods here. I am going to miss it when we move.

I will try to get some more posts out. I have fallen behind again! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I can't believe its July tomorrow! :P
